배관공이 작업장에서 배관시공 작업중 황산과 물이 반응되면서 황산병 압력이 상승하여 폭발하였다. 이 사고로 배관공의 얼굴, 옷, 몸 전체에 황산 튀어 황산 화상사고를 당했다. 주변에 있던 사람이 긴급 샤워를 하여 조치를 하였음에도 불구하고 특히 눈 부위에 화상이 심각한 것으로 전해지고 있다.

Plumber injured in horrific acid explosion
An Adelaide plumber has suffered horrific acid burns in a workplace accident this afternoon.

Just after midday, the 69-year-old man was attempting to unblock a pipe at a Walkerville Terrace barbershop in the city’s north.

A witness told 9News the bottle of sulphuric acid he was using pressurised and exploded in his face.
They said the man ran outside screaming in pain as his clothes melted off his body.

“It covered his whole body, his face, over his chest, arms, back legs and melted his clothes,” witness Anton Brown told 9News.

“He seemed to be in a lot of pain and shock and his eyesight was gone straight away.”
Horrified onlookers rushed to help the man, taking him to a shower at a nearby gym as he screamed in pain.
Paramedics arrived a short time later and commended the people who first helped the man.

“The guys on scene did a very good start by dousing him in water with the initial flushing,” SA Ambulance Service’s Clinton Daniels said.
They rushed the man to hospital as firefighters remained at the scene to isolate the dangerous material spread across the barbershop floor.

“There was quite a lot of acid around and it was tested to be at its most extreme PH level,” firefighter Rainer Kiessling told 9News.

The plumber is now being monitored by burns specialists at the Royal Adelaide Hospital, where he remains in a serious condition.
